Creative Repurposing Recycling Ideas

Posted on: 30 December 2015

Recycling is good for the environment and for your conscience, but what about recycling larger, bulkier items or huge amounts of plastic bottles? If you have some things you cannot use as they are but don't want them to end up in landfill, you can always get creative with them and re-purpose them into something else. Here are a few creative ideas for items that you can try yourself to help you reuse things that would otherwise end up in the trash heap.

Wooden palettes can be used to make almost anything you can imagine. Stack them up and connect them with screws or nails, and put outdoor weather resistant cushions on top of them for an affordable piece of outdoor furniture. You can also hang them up on an outside wall and attach planters to them to create an easy vertical garden. Palettes are extremely versatile since they can be deconstructed and the wood can be reused. Get creative with your old palettes and come up with your own unique objects.

Old Suitcases

Maybe you're ready to upgrade your luggage, but you don't want to just throw those old suitcases in the trash. Take your suitcase and line the inside with contact paper or fabric, Add a shelf or two to the inside with a small piece of wood, and mount it to the wall for a really cool cabinet. Add a mirror to the front of the suitcase to make it into an adorable medicine cabinet! You can also add a cushion to the inside of your old suitcase and craft a cute and comfy bed for your cat or small dog. Suitcases can be transformed into all kinds of awesome new things, so get creative!

Plastic Bottles

Plastic is one of the most common items found in a landfill, and you can actually turn this trash into something really unique. Take large two-liter soda bottles and tape them together in a circle. Add a piece of heavy cardboard to the top and bottom, and then cover your creation with foam and fabric to make a DIY ottoman. Paint plastic bottles with colorful paint, and cut a small slot at the top for a cute homemade piggy bank. This is a great project for the kids that will teach them the virtue of reusing items and saving money at the same time.

Also, you can cut the top off of plastic bottles and make a few small holes in the bottom, and you have an instant flower pot.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to getting creative with your recycling, so see what other great ideas you can dream up! For more information on recycling, contact a company like City Waste Services Of New York, Inc.
